Project description

The project is aimed at significant extension and development of the experimental possibilities of Division of Biophysics by creation of a Laboratory of Biopolymers equipped with modern and unique scientific instruments. Launching of the project enables complex and multidisciplinary approach to investigations of proteins and ribonucleic acids (RNA), directed to their activity within the molecular complexes and subcellular nanostructures. The research is based on wide collaboration of physicists, chemists and biologists, and range from providing the suitable objects by means of chemical syntheses (RNA fragments, enzyme inhibitors) and genetic engineering (protein factors and enzymes), their structural and dynamic characterization by means of biophysical methods, and their function in biological in vitro and in vivo systems, taking into account practical aspects of the results in rational drug design. Expensive and worldwide high throughput investigations in genomics and proteomics should be supplemented by dynamic, thermodynamic, and energetic aspects, in terms of molecular biophysics as well as multidisciplinary approach including chemistry, physics and biology. Exploiting of the new instrumentation in the Laboratory of Biopolymers will follow that strategy. Close collaboration within the Project between the Laboratory of Biopolymers and Laboratory of Modelling Large Biomolecular Complexes and Nanostructures guarantees a support from modern bioinformatics and professional computer packages for classical and quantum calculations and simulations in the experimental work. The Laboratory of Biopolymers is open for a worldwide collaboration with other scientific laboratories.
